The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has named fantasy sports and betting company FanDuel as an authorized gaming operator in North, South and Central America.
The deal gives FanDuel access to the leading women’s tennis tour’s trademarks and its official scoring data from Stats Perform, which in November agreed a six-year data supply deal with the WTA.
It is the WTA’s first authorised gaming partnership and the deal also marks the first time a women’s sport will have video highlights throughout FanDuel’s digital platforms and sportsbooks.
“FanDuel is a premier destination for sports fans online and this relationship provides the building blocks for growing our fanbase,” said WTA president Micky Lawler.
“This milestone not only delivers on the growing appetite fans have for a more personalised sporting experience, but also paves the way for us to have a proactive role in managing the responsible gambling standards and practices we wish to foster.
“Our top priority is providing our fans with more opportunities to engage with the sport in a fun and safe way.”
The pair plan to work together to promote safe and responsible gambling, with the WTA signing up to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to support its safer sports betting initiative.
