The #9 Chevrolet takes down another road course as the Hendrick Motorsport driver wins his second race of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season.
He never got a lap at speed in qualifying, but Elliott claimed the first NASCAR Cup Series race at Road America in nearly 65 years. The NASCAR Cup Series returned to the track at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for the first time since 1956.
Elliott, who started 34th, drove his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet pass Kyle Busch on Lap 46 of 62 and to a victory of 5.705 seconds over Christopher Bell.
Kyle Busch finished third. His older brother, Kurt Busch, finished fourth and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.
Elliott has won five of the past seven Cup road course races. That includes his victory in the inaugural Cup race at Circuit of the Americas last month. His six career road course victories tie him for third on the all-time list with Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallace and Ricky Rudd.
