MLB just announced new guidance regarding pitchers’ use of foreign substances.
Official Baseball Rules 3.01 and 6.02(c) and (d), which prohibit applying foreign substances to baseballs, will go into effect on June 21st.
Per a statement from MLB, the “enhanced enforcement” of the rule will include umpires’ making “regular checks of all pitchers regardless of whether an opposing Club’s manager makes a request.”
Players caught using foreign substances on balls will be ejected and suspended 10 games.
